Description

Seed grown Puya venusta bromeliad. Hard to find. About Four years old and getting too big for the 6" pot. Ready to be sized up to a larger pot or planted in the ground. Puyas are known for their incredible blooms, venusta has an incredible deep purple bloom as you can see in those pics.

These are hardy semi-arid terrestrial plants. They need well drained soil like a bromeliad, orchid or cactus. They cannot be mounted in trees like neoregelia and Aechmea.
They can survive heavy rain season and long dry seasons. They can be in full sun and tolerate some cold weather and light frosts. They are the most cold-hardy bromeliads. These spiky plants naturally grow in areas like the Andes where they experience desert conditions and even snow.
