This is it. The absolute undefeatable beast of the bromeliad world. Aechmea blanchetiana. These things don't die. Hurricane, flood, drought, doesn't matter. Blanchetiana laughs at natural disasters, they laugh at the Florida summer sun. Once rooted and established they're basically invincible. They just grow and get more and more beautiful. I have these on my south Florida property with no irrigation and they survive the dry season with no trouble. They also survived being under 2 feet of water for 3 months after hurricane Irma.
This is the Raspberry cultivar, it will turn orange-red leaning more towards the red as it matures and gets sun. It will still get a nice red color even in partial sun, but can easily handle all day full sun. As if that wasn't enough they also get spectacular blooms, bracts will grow several feet high showing off yellow and orange florescence that will last for many months (typically over 6 months in my landscape) They attract humming birds.
You will get an unrooted pup, which will automatically root when planted after a month or so. No need for hormones or powders. It will be at least 12" tall but more likely 18" to 24". After it's rooted you can dig it up and move it around with no worry about transplant shock. It simply doesn't care. You could also just throw it on the ground on it's side and it would still grow and put out offshoots. I'm not joking when I say these things are beasts.
